PIMS in Space at the International Astronautical Congress 2011

PIMS International (in cooperation with ESA, Gasunie (NL) and SASOL Gas South Africa) have almost completed the PIMS in Space project. The objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility of monitoring gas and oil pipelines using space borne assets and sensors.

The recommendations and conclusions of the project have been be presented by Neo Modise (SASOL Gas South Africa) at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Cape town. Major conclusions are: Technical issues have been solved, the technique developed can cover the majority of user requirements, The technique opens new perspectives for pipeline integrity management practice on both technical and economical basis. ESA, SASOL Gas South Africa and PIMS International have agreed in Cape Town to continue the project and are planning to execute a pilot program in 2012. A roadmap is under development. New participants will be invited on the basis of this roadmap.
